John PUTMAN b: 1787 in South Carolina d. 1855 Lawrence County, AL. John is listed in the Lawrence County, AL Census for the years 1840 and 1850. John married Lucy COVINGTON 22 DEC 1808 Rutherford County, NC.

Rev. Anderson PUTMAN   b. 07 OCT 1821, Morgan County, AL d. 10 MAY 1890. He married Henreitta A. TURRENTINEb. 25 NOV 1829 d. 16 AUG 1883 on 28 AUG 1853 in Morgan County, Alabama. She is the daughter of Joseph Turrentine born about 1793 in North Carolina, he died in Morgan County, AL. Joseph married Rhonda Payne  b. abt 1798 in Georgia. Joseph is believed to be the son of John Turentine of Pennsylvania b. 1755. Joseph's mother is Mary Barlour.

The family of Anderson and Henrietta PUTMAN moved to Sevier County, AR in the 1850's and was there in the 1860 Census. When he was 36 years old and Henrietta was 29, they were living in Greenville, Saline Township, Arkansas. (This is according to the 1860 Federal Census REEL NO:  M653-51  PAGE NO:  8
REFERENCE:  P.O. Greenville  12th June 1860 by N.J. Temple)

The children of Anderson and Henrietta PUTMAN were:

I. John Turrentine Putman b. SEP 1855 Morgan County, AL d. 1929. He is buried in Mineral Springs Cemetery, Howard County, Arkansas. The tombstone reads " John Turrentine Putman 1856 - 1929".

On 08 JAN 1879 in Mineral Springs, Howard County, AR John was married to Lydia Reeder b. 24 DEC 1861 d. 03 APR 1891. This marriage is listed in "Howard County Marriages - Howard County, AR 1873 - 1902, Marriage Record Book "B" page 70. The officiant was R.M. Traylor.


II. Elizabeth S. Putman b. 1855 AR She married James Sims Draper and lived in Nashville, AR. We do not find her in Arkansas after 1880.

III. Josiah Anderson Putman b. 1866 M. 26 FEB 1890 to Clara Bateman in Howard County, AR. In the 1900 Census he is 33 and Clara is 29 and there are no children. In the 1920 census his wife is 22 years old her name is "Minnie" and he is 53, 20 years difference in their ages, there are no children listed here either.

John Turrentine Putman married Lydia Adeline Reeder about 08 JAN 1878 at Howard County, AR. Lydia was born 24 DEC 1861 Howard Co., AR and died 26 OCT 1918 at Mineral Springs, Howard County, AR.

Children of John Turrentine and Lydia Putman's first marriage were: 

1. Lottie M. Putman b. 1881 married to a Cox.

2.  Willis "Willie" Marvin Putman b. 04 NOV 1883 d. 26 OCT 1918. In the 1920 Census we find a widow Susan Putman who is 37 years old. She is living with her father, J.C. Bratton and she may have been married to Willis. I am curious about the cause of death, his mother appears to have died on the same day.

3. Archibald "Archie" Turrentine Putman b. 05 AUG 1884 (another source says 04 AUG 1886) d. 1968 in Mineral Springs, Howard County, Arkansas. He was married to Eula Lee Cowling and they had two children: Marie Putman b. 04 DEC 1907 m. William PORTER, 1931 d. 1957, and Donna Putman b. 1914 and Billie Putman 25 Aug 1815.

4. Reeder "Jesse" S. Putman b. 20 AUG 1889 (Another source says AUG 1884) in Mineral Springs, Howard County, AR d. 1939 in Blue Bayou, Howard County, AR. He was a farmer known by the nickname "Jesse". He married  Pearl Lyons b. abt. 1891. (Some listings spell it Pearle) Married  abt. 1906. He married Emmie TINKES in 1928 after his first wife passed away.

ORRICK FAMILIES


Henry G. Orrick -b. abt. 1803 in Georgia. On 18 DEC 1828 in Upson County, GA, Henry married Gracy Tidwell, daughter of William Tidwell and Mary Amelia Jones, born in 1785 in South Carolina.   The young couple moved to Meriwether County shortly after their marriage and lived near Grace's parents in the upper ninth district of Meriwether not far from Mt. Carmel Church.

Sometime after 1840, Henry sold his land in Meriwether and he and Grace moved to Tallapoosa County, Alabama. At that time they had increased their family to four boys and one girl. In the 1850 census, they have the following children at home: Sarah, Henry, William, Mary, Sebra and Mark. Eventually, they raise eight or nine children in the Tallapoosa area. Grace appeared in Tallapoosa censuses through 1860 and Henry through 1870. Gracy would have been abt. 55 years old in 1860 with 5 children living at home. So, we can't be sure what happened to her. Perhaps she died, So far, I have been unable to locate her or Henry in any of the online Tallapoosa County cemetery records.

It seems the family began to break apart after Henry's death sometime before 1880. We know that William D. (my great-great grandfather), his wife and children, and his three sisters, Sarah, Mary Ann, and Sebra moved to Pike County, AR before 1880.

William "Bill" D. Orrick, b. 1839, married Nancy Louisa Britt in Tallapoosa County, AL in 1865 p. 535. Nancy was born in Florida. Both are buried in New Ebenezer Cemetery, in Amity, Pike County, AR. Here are the dates as recorded on the head stones:

Nancy L. Orrick 5/14/1843 - 12/25/1916

You may have noticed, there are several mistakes in the census data, includng the spelling of their 3rd child's name and sex. Sebra is the correcting spelling of this young woman's name, and she is definately a female not a male as she was enumerated as twice! We know it is Sebra, because this is a famiy name which also appears in the family of Milly Tidwell and James Boyd.

William Orrick's sister, Sebra T. Orrick married Tayor Moran about 1873, probably in Tallapoosa County, and had six children, four of whom were still living in 1900. Children who appear in the census are John H., Ophelia W., Grady F., and Virgil T. Moran. There wre several Moran families living near the Orrick families. It appears Sarah and Mary Ann never married, though I am still searching to find husband's for them. in 1900, Mary Ann was living with her sister Sebra. I could not find, Sarah. She would have been in her 70's at this time, so it is possible she may have died. Yet, I do not find her buried in New Ebenezer Cemetery wth the others.

You can see here in the 1880 Cesus of Pike County that two of the girls, Mary Ann and Sarah, are living with their brother William and his wife Nancy. By the 1900 census, Sebra’s husband has died leaving her widowed with two sons, and her sister Mary Ann is 58 years old and still single living with her as well.  Sebra is 55 years old and her sons are 19 and 13 years old.

* The name here is actually Gracy, she was named for her grandmother Grace Tidwell Orrick. It appears she died at the age of 29. She is likely the G.E. Orrick we find burried in New Ebenezer Cemetery with other family members. The dates on her stone are 12/14/1879 - 2/9/1908. Her brother, Bedford is also there, his dates are 10/19/1866 - 2/11/1905.

**The nick name is Jennie, but her given name is Virginia.

There are other children born between 1828 and 1850 who may have left home the 1850 census was taken. There are other Orricks in Pike County, AR who may have belonged to this family.

I found them living in Stow's Ferry PO, Tallapoosa, AL in the 1860 census. Here they are as they appear with the children who are still living at home:
